How to Publish Your iOS App to the App Store

Snapp publishes your iOS app to the App Store for you — and here's the best part: you don't need a Mac, and you don't have to touch certificates or provisioning profiles. Snapp handles all the Apple signing automatically. You just connect your Apple account once.

---

What you'll need (one-time setup)

1. An Apple Developer account — $99/year. → How to create an Apple Developer account 2. An App Store Connect API key with the Admin role (a small .p8 file + two IDs). Snapp uses it to sign and submit your app. 3. Your app created once in App Store Connect (Apple doesn't allow apps to be created automatically, so this first step is manual — it takes a minute).

After this, publishing is a single tap.

---

Step 1 — Create an App Store Connect API key (Admin)

1. Go to App Store Connect → Users and Access → Integrations. 2. Generate a new Team key. Set the role to Admin — this is required so Snapp can create your signing certificate. ("App Manager" can submit but cannot create certificates.) 3. Copy the Issuer ID and Key ID, and download the .p8 file (you can only download it once). 4. Find your Team ID at Apple Developer → Membership.

In Snapp → Publish App → Store credentials → Apple → Connect → paste the Issuer ID, Key ID, Team ID, and the contents of the .p8 file.

> The .p8 is a plain text file. On a Mac, open it with TextEdit and copy everything (including the -----BEGIN/END----- lines), or run cat AuthKey_XXXX.p8 | pbcopy and paste.

---

Step 2 — Create your app in App Store Connect

Apple requires the app record to exist before a build can be submitted (their API can't create it for us — same idea as Google Play's first upload):

1. Open App Store Connect → Apps+ → New App. 2. Platform: iOS. Select your bundle ID from the list. Snapp registers it with Apple as soon as you start your first publish, so if it isn't listed yet, start Step 3 first and create the app here while Snapp builds. If the build finishes before the app exists, create it and tap Retry submit (no rebuild). 3. Fill in the name, primary language, and an SKU (any unique text — your bundle ID works fine).

---

Step 3 — Publish

Open your app → Publish → iOS. Snapp will:

  • create your Distribution Certificate and Provisioning Profile automatically (via your Admin API key),
  • build a signed .ipa in the cloud,
  • and submit it to App Store Connect — landing in TestFlight / review.
  • You'll get a push and an email when it's submitted. Then you finish in App Store Connect — complete your listing and tap Submit for Review → Complete your App Store listing & submit for review. Apple review usually takes 1–2 days.

    Common questions

Do I need a Mac? No. Snapp builds and signs in the cloud.

Why does my API key need the Admin role? Creating a signing certificate requires it. An "App Manager" key can submit but not create certificates — so publishing would stall. Always generate the key as Admin.

Why do I create the app manually once? Apple's public API can't create app records — only you can, in App Store Connect. It's a one-minute, one-time step; every release after that is automatic.

How much does it cost? Apple Developer Program: $99/year. On the Snapp side, publishing needs a Starter plan or higher, and each successful publish uses one of your plan's monthly publishes (failed attempts are free).
